A commercial microwave on a restaurant line, in a café or in an office pantry can run hundreds of cycles a day. It doesn’t wear out the way a home microwave does, and it’s built to be repaired. Best Pro services light-duty and heavy-duty commercial microwaves, including dual-magnetron models, for food businesses and workplaces around the Bay.
What fails, and why
Longer cook times, one side cold. Heavy-duty units often have two magnetrons, top and bottom. Lose one and the oven still heats — just slower and lopsided. A stirrer motor that stops turning causes uneven heating too.
Shuts itself off when it’s been busy. Most commercial microwaves pull cooling air through an intake filter. Once that filter is coated in grease, the magnetrons run hot and the thermal cutouts shut the oven down. Washing the filter on a schedule is the cheapest way to make magnetrons last.
Won’t start, or blows its fuse. Doors on a busy line get slammed all day. The interlock switches wear and the door itself goes out of alignment, and either one keeps the oven from starting or takes out the main fuse.
Keys stop working. Membrane keypads wear through under constant use; we replace the keypad or the board behind it.
Arcing inside. Grease on the waveguide cover, or a damaged cavity.
Office pantries and campus cafés
Workplace kitchens along the Peninsula and in the South Bay often run a row of identical microwaves through a short, intense lunch rush. Door switches and keypads go first on units like these. If you have several of the same model, we can check them all on one visit.
Not a DIY job
The capacitor in a microwave stores a dangerous charge even when the unit is unplugged. Leave testing and repairs to a technician.
How we work
We test the magnetrons, the high-voltage parts, the interlocks and the controls, and price the repair before we start. Repairs carry a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. For other cooking equipment, see commercial cooktop repair and convection oven repair; home microwaves are covered under microwave repair.
