Combination wall ovens — a microwave stacked over a full-size oven in one tall cabinet — are a staple of Bay Area kitchen remodels, where every inch of wall counts. The two halves look separate, but they usually run off one control board, one thermal fuse and one cooling fan. Best Pro repairs these combos, along with speed ovens and convection microwaves.
Which half stopped?
Nothing responds at all. When the touch panel goes dark for both the microwave and the oven, look at what they share: the control board, the thermal fuse, the power supply. A self-clean cycle on the lower oven is a frequent trigger, because it heats the whole cabinet, electronics included.
The microwave hums but leaves food cold. The top half has its own high-voltage parts — magnetron, diode, capacitor, transformer — and its own set of door switches. These fail exactly as they do in a standalone microwave; our microwave repair page walks through them.
The microwave is fine but the oven won’t bake. Usually a bake element hidden under the oven floor, a broil element, the temperature probe in the cavity or the convection fan. The oven repair page covers those.
A fan that roars, or one you can no longer hear. A cooling fan keeps the electronics alive during cooking and runs on for a while after. A noisy one is on its way out; a dead one lets the board and fuses cook. Replacing it early is the cheap option.
Speed and convection modes. Speed ovens and convection microwaves add a heating element and a fan to the microwave cavity. It’s common for plain microwaving to work while convection or speed-cook doesn’t, or the reverse.
What we can replace
Interlock switches, magnetrons, diodes, capacitors and fuses; cooling, convection and turntable motors and their couplers; bake and broil elements and sensors; lamps, touch panels and control boards. If the numbers don’t add up for an older unit, we say so before any part is ordered.
Built-in means heavy
A combo unit weighs a lot and sits snug in the cabinetry. Plenty of repairs happen from the front with the unit in place; when one needs the oven pulled out, we tell you before the visit.
We work on GE, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Samsung, Maytag, Kenmore, Bosch, Electrolux, Frigidaire and other brands. Two full-size ovens instead? See double oven repair.
