California’s food code says cold food has to stay at 41°F or below, and an inspector from San Francisco, San Mateo County or Santa Clara County will check. When a reach-in or a prep table drifts above that, both the food and the day’s service are at risk. Best Pro repairs commercial refrigerators for restaurants, cafés, bars, hotels and stores, with same-day service for most calls.
Equipment we service
- Reach-in refrigerators with one, two or three doors
- Sandwich and pizza prep tables, undercounter and worktop units
- Display cases and merchandisers with glass doors
- Bar coolers and back-bar refrigerators
Walk-in boxes have their own pages: walk-in cooler repair and walk-in freezer repair. Reach-in and display freezers are covered under commercial freezer repair.
Why reach-ins run warm
- Dirty condenser coil. Grease and flour from a busy line coat the coil, and the compressor can’t shed heat. Cleaning it is the most common fix — and the cheapest.
- Worn door gaskets. Doors that open hundreds of times a shift tear their gaskets, and warm air pours in.
- Hot, cramped kitchens. Many San Francisco restaurant kitchens are small, and an undercounter unit next to a fryer or a range breathes hot air all day.
- Iced evaporator. A failed defrost heater, timer or fan lets ice build up until cold air can’t get through.
Newer units on R-290
Many reach-ins sold in California in recent years run on R-290 (propane) instead of older refrigerants. The sealed system holds a small charge and needs different handling during repairs. Our EPA 608 certified technicians work on both older and newer refrigerants.
How we work
The technician checks the whole system — condenser coil and fan, compressor, evaporator, defrost, controller and gaskets — and fixes the cause instead of just resetting the unit. You get the price before any work starts, and the repair carries a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. We also do scheduled maintenance, such as coil cleaning and gasket and drain checks, so the unit doesn’t quit in the middle of a busy shift.
What it costs
- Service call and diagnostic
- $120 — free if you go ahead with the repair
After the diagnostic you get a flat price for the whole repair, and you decide before any work starts. Parts and labor carry a 90-day warranty. All prices
