Range/Stove Repair in the San Francisco Bay Area

Same-day service from San Francisco to San Jose. Upfront pricing and a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

A range is a cooktop and an oven sharing one cabinet, one set of controls and one gas or power supply. Best Pro repairs freestanding, slide-in and front-control ranges — gas, electric and dual-fuel — in homes and rentals. That includes the narrow 24- and 30-inch apartment ranges in many San Francisco flats, where a replacement that fits the gap can be hard to find.

On top

Gas burners. A burner that won’t light, or keeps clicking after it lights, nearly always has a spill on the cap or base, a wet or cracked igniter, or a worn spark switch behind the knob. Clicking that won’t stop after the flame is up is moisture or the switch.

Coil and radiant burners. One that stays cold, or stays on high no matter where the knob is, has a burned-out element, a scorched or loose terminal, or a failed infinite switch. That switch is the part behind the knob that cycles the burner on and off.

Cracked glass. We replace the top. Until then, don’t cook on it: liquid can get through the crack to the elements.

Below

The oven in a range breaks the same way a wall oven does — elements, igniters, sensors, self-clean and door locks — and our oven repair page goes through it. Ranges with a second oven are covered under double oven repair.

Gas safety and anti-tip brackets

  • If you smell gas, shut the burners off, don’t touch switches or the igniter, get out and call 911 or PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 from outside. We leak-test the connections after every gas range repair.
  • Pull gently on the open oven door. If the range rocks forward, the anti-tip bracket is missing or not engaged — common after the range has been pulled out for cleaning or a move. Our technician checks it on every visit.

If you rent

Tell your landlord or property manager about the visit. We can send them the diagnosis and the quote, so the repair can be approved without a second trip.

We repair GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Samsung, LG, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch, Kenmore, Electrolux and other brands. A cooktop set into the counter is covered under cooktop repair; professional-style Wolf and Viking ranges have their own pages: Wolf, Viking.

FAQ

Range/Stove Repair: common questions

How much does range repair cost?

The service call is $85, free if you go ahead with the repair. Range and stove repairs run $185 to $785, from an igniter or a switch at the low end to a control board at the top.

Why does my gas burner keep clicking?

Usually moisture after a spill or a cleaning, or food on the cap or base. Let the burner dry completely. If it still clicks, the spark switch behind that knob needs replacing.

I rent. Can you work with my landlord?

Yes. We can send the diagnosis and the quote to your landlord or property manager, so the repair can be approved without a second trip.
